How far is Tikkandi from Melbourne?
Tikkandi is approximately 3 hours from Melbourne by car and can
be reached a number of ways including through Whittlesea to Yea;
the Hume Hwy to Yea or the Benalla / Mansfield exit; or the Melba
Hwy from Yarra Glen to Yea and then Mansfield.
Once in Mansfield, Tikkandi is approximately 20 minutes along the
Mansfield Mt Buller Rd. Please note, as there may be no fuel available
beyond Mansfield, it may be a good idea to get some when you arrive
there.
Can I stay one night or is there a minimum stay?
A minimum stay of two nights is required. Minimum stays for public
holiday weekends may also apply.
How many people can be accommodated at Tikkandi?
Tikkandi comfortably accommodates up to six people. Because each
room has a queen size bed, the property is ideal for small groups
of family and friends.
Can children be accommodated?
Yes, however Tikkandi does not provide high chairs or cots. Because
Tikkandi is a two story property, extra care will need to be taken
with the little ones.
What do we need to bring?
Tikkandi is a self catered property with a kitchen that has everything
you need to make a great meal at home. All your linen including
pillows, doonas and Egyptian cotton towels are provided. An extensive
range of DVDs and books are available to you for use during your
stay. You only need to bring the food you are going to eat and your
favourite CDs.
Is there anywhere nearby we can go out for a meal?
Pinnacle Valley Resort, the Hunt Club and the Merrijig Motor Inn
all have dining facilities where you can get a great local meal.
Kinloch Winery is a fabulous local winery open for lunch most weekends
and serves great gourmet food platters. Mansfield, only 20 minutes
away by car also has a great selection of restaurants and pubs.
How far is Tikkandi from Mt Buller?
Tikkandi is located in Alpine Ridge and approximately 5 km from
the Mt Buller gates. Subject to road conditions, you can drive from
Tikkandi to the Horse Hill chairlift car park on the mountain in
about 20 minutes.
Will I have to carry chains for my car?
Even though you may not need to use them, chains must be carried
at all times during winter. They can be hired locally in Mansfield,
Merrijig and Mirimbah and can be quick and easy to fit. If you haven’t
fitted chains before, it is recommended you find out from the hirer
how to fit them to your vehicle. There are a number of chain fitting
areas along the mountain road where you can pull over to fit chains.
Some qualified chain fitters are also available on the mountain
and can fit the chains for you. You may be charged a fee for this
service.
What if I don’t want to drive up the mountain,
is there another way to get up there?
Yes, Mansfield Mt Buller Bus Lines run regular shuttles up to the
Mt Buller Village departing from Mansfield with stops at Pinnacle
Valley, Mirimbah and with prior arrangement at the bottom of Alpine
Ridge Drive – a three minute walk from Tikkandi. Check with
Mansfield Mt Buller Bus Lines for departure times. A free village
shuttle operates from the car parks to the village.
If I don’t have my own ski or snowboarding equipment
where can I hire some from?
Buller Sports is located in Mansfield and at the bottom of the
Horse Hill Chair lift on Mt Buller. Both are ideal for guests staying
off the mountain. There is a wide range of equipment to hire including
skis, snowboards, walking boots, clothing and toboggans.
Is there somewhere we can pick up some groceries?
If you haven’t brought along anything from home, Mansfield
has two supermarkets which are open seven days a week from 8 am
to 8 pm. Both supermarkets have a good range of food and alcohol,
including great regional wines. Mt Buller has a small supermarket
where you can pick up some groceries after your day on the mountain.
